The apprenticeship combines a mixture of academic learning and practical training delivered in both college and the workplace. When in the workplace you will be assigned a workplace mentor and you will have dedicated time to enable you to complete your apprenticeship training.
You will be visited regularly by your Training Officer from Tyne North Training who will assess and monitor your progress and set new learning objectives. Your Training Officer will ensure that you are getting the right level of support and they will help manage with any issues that might arise.

Engineering Apprenticeship Requirements and Outcomes
Level 3 Advanced
Level 3 apprenticeships are for positions in organisations where complex engineering tasks are being completed and it requires a number of years to develop full competence in the skills and techniques required. Apprenticeships at this level can be suited to school leavers who wish to enter the workplace aged 16 or 17, but also older learners who have already completed A levels or further college study.
To be eligible for this apprenticeship you will need grade C/4 in both Maths and English and in some cases a grade C/4 in ICT, although if you haven’t achieved this you may be able to study ICT Functional Skills as part of your apprenticeship, which will normally be delivered in both the employer and at college. Typically, the apprenticeship will commence with an initial period of full-time college study (called block release) followed by an additional period of one day a week college study with four days spent with the employer. Once college study is completed, which normally takes two years in total, the remainder of the apprenticeship is spent full time with the employer.
You will learn a mixture of generic engineering skills that will be transferable between most engineering roles such as interpreting engineering drawings, engineering measurement, mechanical and electrical principles and engineering mathematics. You will also develop a complex set of engineering skills that are specific to the role within your employer such as Fabrication and Welding, CNC Machining, Mechanical or Electrical Maintenance, CAD or Engineering Technical Support.
The apprenticeship would traditionally be completed over the course of three and a half years and at the end of the apprenticeship, you will have completed a Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard, Engineering Fitter Standard, Metal Fabricator Standard or Plate Welder Standard. In addition, in most case you will have gained a number of qualifications which could typically include a level 3 technical certificate (such as a BTEC or equivalent) and a level 3 vocational qualification (such as an NVQ or equivalent).
